German Spy Museum
Dive into the history and future of spying, from Biblical times to present day, in the former spy capital of the world. Find out if you have what it takes to be a spy at the German Spy Museum!
When you visit the German Spy Museum, you can test your own spy craft. From finding bugs to decrypting coded messages and writing secret messages in disappearing ink. Sending morse code messages, passing a lie detector, and cracking a safe are some of the things a spy must be able to do and you can try.
At the German Spy Museum you can even try your hand at making your way through a laser maze. You’ll have two minutes to try to make it through which ever way you can. Whether you jump, crouch or crawl, you just have to make sure that you don’t touch the laser beams.

Knowledge has always been power, which is why spies have been around as long as human civilisation itself. In ancient Egypt spies were known as “the eyes of the Pharoah”, in Persia King Cyrus referred to them as his many “eyes and ears”, and even General Sun Tzu devoted a whole chapter to spies in his famous “The Art of War”.
During the Cold War, Berlin was where East met West, no where else did the Soviet and NATO powers get into such close contact with each other. This is why Berlin is the best place to learn all about the world of spies. You can visit the German Spy Museum on the former border, the very death strip of the Berlin Wall.

This is a really fun museum. We found it slightly by accident and then looked it up, read a few reviews and decided to visit on the last morning of our trip. Very pleased we did! It's a really interesting tour through espionage in general and Berlin's history of it, with some fun things like lie detectors and the laser maze too. Quite a lot of interactive exhibits too.
Lots to see and read, plenty of interactive exhibits, great for all the family, some tiny cameras and facts about double agents
The spy museum is amazing! It is a fascinating dive into the world of espionage and there is a wonderful mix of educational exhibits and hands on activities to keep kids engaged and entertained. My son especially loved the laser maze. It's well worth a visit.
Great if your interested in the black arts of spy craft and esponaige - has a decent 007 M Bond - James Bond if you don't mind exhibit. Also some fun things for kids to do including a laser maize. Plenty of historical and adult info and items to keep most interested. Worth a visit in easy to find location.
Great place! Lots of very interesting objects and you also have several games to play there. Lots and lots of amazing things.
Just sitting in the cafe after having our mind blown by the array of items on display. We spent nearly two hours going around the various displays and still feel like we rushed it - there is a lot to read and interact with as well as look at the various displays. Definitely worth a visit
A well balanced look at how spying happened throughout the ages, and in the Cold War particularly. Both sides contrasted!
Good little museum. Plenty to see on an adult level but also loads for small children to get hands on with. Covers the art of espionage through the ages, it's use in the wars and cold war era and in TV and film.
An absolutely amazing place to visit for all ages. We have 3 children ranging from 9-14 and we could have all stayed there the whole day. Nearly everything has an interactive element, whether that is cracking a code to writing in morse code, through to the laser challenge. In addition to the interactive elements there are lots of stories of spies and the methods they used throughout history up to today. We had to drag the children (and my wife me) away in the end. With children this is a must do if you’re visiting Berlin.
Went to you yesterday. Got tickets but had to wait an hour as staggered access. Well worth the weight! Spent a couple of hours in here but could’ve stayed an awful lot longer. Even though it was August it was air-conditioned and felt quite spacious! Really good really interesting and would love to go back.
The German Spy Museum does a good job of catering both to children and to adults interested in the history and gadgetry of espionage or who, like Brosnan's James Bond, "never grew up". You can search for microdots on the cover of Playboy, search a desk for bugs, attempt to navigate a cinematic laser maze, reassemble shredded documents, try your hand at safecracking, and so on. There's some great information about 20th century spycraft and also a spectacular collection of now-obsolete spy equipment – some replicas, many originals – and a few props from James Bond movies. I was a little disappointed by the lack of exploding pens in the gift shop, but that was also full of stuff that I would have adored as a kid. 007/10.
Great interactive museum with a lot of information on espionage since the early ages. Great and detailed overview of the times of the cold war and about different spies and counter spying. You can also take quizzes, take photos pretending to be a spy, do a Laser Parcours and much more. In the end the museum takes you into challenges of today’s cyber world. It is really worth the money.!
Well worth it got in for free with Berlin welcome card and did have to wait about 30 mins as to make sure it doesn’t get crowded they have time slots that you need to book even with the welcome card. Lots of easy to read info, cool spy gadgets to see and several interactive things to use such as the laser challenge and how good are you at reading lips. Gift shop and mini cafe next door to spend the time.
rich and very inclusive museum with many interesting items that take you all the way back to the history of spying. we enjoyed very much.
loads to do . be warned its on the list for schools to visit,so it could be full . spread over 3 floors .very interactive . cafe was very good and not expensive
This museum had a lot of interesting exhibits/items and even a few interactive (try to decode this). There were videos of interviews with security experts. Really enjoyed it. Looked like the only 2 languages supported were German and English, so if you don’t speak either, it might not be a great place to go.
A very interesting museum. You could spend all day there! Lots of interesting exhibits, some hands-on things to play with. It's on two levels and there doesn't seem to be a lift, so it isn't ideal for wheelchairs, familiies with buggies, etc. There are boxes you can sit on but it would be better if they had portable seats as in many art galleries, for those who can't stand for long periods. Admission at the door is €16 standard for adults, but you can typically save €2 each by booking online, and you can then be sure of entry. Why do entertainments never list their admission prices at the door? There are lockers available and a cafe. Burn this review after reading...
We enjoyed this, lots of hands on things to do - we particularly liked the laser maze. It was really busy when we were there - lots of school groups so we didn’t get to try everything as there were queues. I’d recommend booking your slot online in advance - we didn’t and couldn’t get in for over an hour. Loads of information to read so you could easily spend a few hours, but 12 year olds have other ideas!
Fantastic spot. Everyone in the family enjoyed it, especially the kids. So many interactive things to do. Especially loved the James Bond area and the laser challenge. Would go back anytime.
Lots of exhibits. If your kids aren’t readers this museum probably isn’t for them. Some interactive stuff. They really broke down spy craft to the very origins which was neat to read about.
great place to spand some time we love it we han nice time dancing with good muzic and had some nice dring we will repit againg this place
We went to visit the Spy Museum. We had read the mixed reviews and were not sure about what to expect. It started out well with the online booking, where we could book for a specific arrival time. Presumably done based om feedback of long lines and to many people. It was REALLY a great, informative, enlightning and a fun experience. We were there with a 10-year-old and a 15-year-old. We stayed for app 1 1/2 h and could have stayed longer. Really one of the best museums I’ve visited with our kids!
Fabulous experience, we all had a super time, the kids have just finished WW2 and moved onto the Cold War at school, so this was perfect. So much to see and do, very interactive, easy to navigate & great for all ages. Really interesting, great learning experience & everyone loved the Mission Impossible laser at the end. We were in there 3 hours …… Thoroughly recommended, a must do in Berlin
As a family we visited and really had a fun time with many of the hands-on exhibits. Creating passwords and testing their strength, trying to locate a bug, as well as the laser challenge obstacle course. These were all exciting for all of us. There was a enough things to read and to try for a more than an hour or two. We sort of lost track of time engaging with so many interesting areas. My 9 year old son enjoyed dressing up in disguise, reading displays, and getting to try various spy craft elements that were really well done.
It was a very nice and interesting experience. We especially enjoyed the laser maze. They have a lot of interactive games.
Best experience with this amazing place and staff. I love the ambiance and the people around here. Will definitely come back again.
Top target to visit. Partially misleading name "museum". Even Teenagers enjoyed it as there are plenty of different activities to do.
Lots to see and lots of information however we thought there was more to do. It was quite busy even though midweek and lots of children monopolising the exhibits. Definitely worth a visit and maybe a private tour would give you more interaction
The views where amazing and we enjoyed all the time spent there hopefully next time we get to visit Austria, I love everything about Germany.
An amazing museum, a must-visit, with beautiful decorations and sections, a very beautiful exterior of the museum:))
It was like stepping into a real-life spy movie! From the gadgets to the interactive exhibits, I was hooked from the moment I walked in. Learning about the history of espionage and seeing how spies operated was not only fascinating but kinda thrilling, too. Plus, getting to test out some of the spy gear? Absolutely epic. If you're into cloak-and-dagger stuff or just looking for a fun and unique museum experience, this place is definitely worth a visit.
The musem is really interactive, there are many tasks to solve, and a fun photo booth! The maze is really fun, but take into account that there can be long lines, so plan to spend at least 3 hours there.
Bought tickets online for a timed visit. Went on a Sunday in October, the place wasn’t busy. Many interactive activities for kids. Although I wouldn’t have visited the place without kids. Good location right on Potsdamer Platz
This museum was a lot of fun. You will learn about the history of espionage and the various ways information was gathered covertly. Quite a few interactive puzzles and a section on James Bond.
Spent an excellent 90 mins here with my 16 year old. We both enjoyed the interactive nature of the displays & learnt lots in a very fun way!
A great museum fully spanning all angles of spying from east-west germany, film, interactive, and great fun. Well worth a visit!
Good fun for a family to pass an hour max. Some really interesting pieces on display. A lot of James Bond pieces also It’s a free attraction on the welcome Berlin card
This is a wicked place to go, it’s full of James Bond type gadgets BUT the thing is this is real life stuff that actually happened… You could spend literally hours in here especially if you absorb everything that they have to offer and you can play with… €14:50 each for an adult ticket just walking in off the street - in mid November 2023
Topical museum about spies in history. The museum has a nice summary of several know and less known secrete agents and a large section of tools/devices used by them in modern history. Get dressed with comfortable clothes to have a chance of beating the laser maze !
This is a very hands-on museum, far more so that most I visited in Berlin. Kids will be very interested. I enjoyed the array of spy gadgets and the secret code presentation. I should have budgeted more time to take it all in.
From the moment we entered through ‘security’ we were kept amused and educated by the great mix of written and interactive displays. Intrigued to see how weapons were disguised in every day objects and the skills required to be a great spy. We tried the lie detector, lip reading and laser obstacle course as well as writing in invisible ink and breaking into a safe. Felt worthy of having our photos taken in the opening scenery from James Bond films. A must do for any Berlin trip!
Great interesting and interactive museum with good exhibits. Some james bond memorabilia as well! The children were enjoying this throughout.
Interesting place to visit. Very interactive for sure, mixing it with a lot of history and events. Clean tidy place also. Prices good.
We had a great time at this museum. It was very interactive and this was good for adults as well as younger people. We spent around 2 hours here - possibly could have spent longer but we didn't interact with everything or do the spy maze. Note - long dresses aren't ideal for the spy maze but we did enjoy seeing the teenagers try it out. All in all it looked like everyone in here was having a great time!
One of the best museums in Berlin, went with some friends whilst traveling and was amazed - we all enjoyed it so much! Very informative and fun, so many interactive points that cater no to everyone, not just kids!
The history of espionage from ancient times. Full of interesting displays, interactive exhibits (great for kids), spy equipment and interesting facts. We easily spent several hours there.
Absolut Sehenswert. Verbrachten zwei tolle Stunden dort.
