Valentine’s Day in Berlin with a twist
Did you know that, according to the UN, a third of women and girls experience violence at some point in their lives? That is one billion women worldwide! The campaign of One Billion Rising brings everyone together in at the Brandenburg Gate to dance against violence against women and for respect under the motto “RISE for the Bodies of All Women, Girls & the Earth.”
This event may not be your usual way to celebrate Valentine’s Day but it certainly is a great experience to come together to honour love and demand an end to the violence. All while challenging traditional Valentine’s Day festivities through self-love and well-being on all levels, this is a great way to spend the day here by yourself, with your partner or friends.
Watch the sunset
A magical sunset when the warm light dips the city into a special atmosphere is always a great way to your Valentine’s date. Berlin has plenty of locations that are ideal to cuddle up and watch the sun go down. Experience an urban romantic sunset on the Tempelhofer Feld in the heart of the city or watch it from the Oberbaumbrücke made from red bricks.
The Landwehrkanal one the other hand may not allow you to see the sunset in full panorama but delights with a peaceful atmosphere while the sun light dazzles on the water of the Spree. For a magnificent view over Berlin you should climb the Drachenberg. The ascent of the hill will be rewarded with a the relaxing sunset and wide view over the city.
Cosmic Love
What could be more romantic than star watching with your partner? Berlin’s planetariums created two special events for exactly this reason. The Zeiss-Grossplanetarium’s event “Cosmic Kisses” combines star gazing with the best love songs of the last 60 years, connecting love and the cosmos which have more in common than you might think.
The Planetarium am Insulaner on the other side delights with the best duets during “Cosmic Duets”, making it one of Berlin's most romantic places on Valentine's and giving your celebration an astronomic twist!
Klimts Kiss - Playing with fire
Spend Valentine's day with this immersive art experience that shows the life and work of the famous Viennese painter Gustav Klimt. The beautiful multimedia show "Klimt's Kiss - Playing with fire" invites guests to experience his paintings and most memorable milestones. Through digital and acoustic effects, the artistic illusions are formed into reality and combined with music, they create a mesmerizing atmosphere that is guaranteed to shape a romantic experience.
The exhibition's center piece and pinnacle surrounds Klimt's most famous painting "The Kiss". The eternal embrace between the couple describes an astonishing love testimony. The visual affects suck the visitor into Klimt's world and let them rediscover the painting reiteratively since it is portrayed both in its entirety and in numerous small details throughout the showroom.
Compete at the Valentine's run
Take part in the valentine's run through the Gardens of the World in Berlin in which you and your loved one are able to participate in an either small (5km) or big (10km) love walk.
Even though this romantic walk does not take place on the 14th but on the following Sunday, many people, wether in love, married, friends or family, participate to spend a romantic day with their special someone through the nature of the well-kept gardens.
