2. Soak up culture and history together on Museum Island

Does your mum love culture and is she interested in history? Then we definitely recommend taking her to Museum Island Berlin, right in the heart of Berlin. Here you’ll find five museums, all within walking distance of each other. The museums that make up Museum Island are the Neues Museum, the Altes Museum, the Bode Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie and the Pergamon Museum: The Panorama. Admire the beautiful works of art and historical artefacts from different periods and cultures on display here. A single ticket grants you access to these five impressive museums, making it easy to fill a whole day with culture and history. This makes it the ideal outing for Mother’s Day, especially if the weather isn’t great.

3. Enjoy a good chat during a relaxing stroll

One of the nicest activities to do with your mum during a visit to Berlin is a leisurely stroll through the city and its beautiful parks. It’s the perfect moment to have a nice chat and really spend some time together. Berlin is a surprisingly green city with over a hundred parks and gardens, meaning you can enjoy a relaxing walk through nature in many places right in the middle of the city. Popular spots such as the Tiergarten, Viktoriapark, Volkspark Friedrichshain and Görlitzer Park perfectly showcase the city’s diversity. Each park has its own unique atmosphere, with large green meadows perfect for a picnic, as well as charming walking paths amongst tall trees and tranquil ponds where you can truly unwind.

4. Explore Berlin with the Hop-on Hop-off bus

Explore Berlin with your mum in a laid-back and carefree way, without worrying about how to get around. The city is huge, full of history and special places. 5. Discover Berlin from the water on a canal cruise

Spend a relaxing cruise on the Spree with your mum on the Green Spree Tour. Admire sights such as the East Side Gallery, the Oberhaum Bridge and the Molecule Man sculpture from the water and discover Berlin from a different perspective. Discover the contrast between the historic buildings on one side and the modern art on the other side of the river. Because that is precisely what makes Berlin so special: the mix of old and modern elements, which you can experience in a unique way from the water and which you simply cannot miss. Thanks to the electric boats, you can cruise through the city in a relaxed and sustainable way. Step aboard, find a nice spot and let all the beauty Berlin has to offer wash over you as you sail along the Spree.

6. Snag the best finds at the flea market

Visit the Schöneberg Flowmarkt with your mum and browse the charming stalls. This market takes place every second Sunday of the month, and this year that also happens to be on Mother's Day. You’ll find second-hand items such as clothing, art and handmade accessories. Of course, there are plenty of food stalls too, so you can enjoy a bite to eat in between. The market is open from 10:00 to 17:00 and entry is free. Who knows, you might even pick up a nice last-minute Mother’s Day gift here!

7. Take photos with your favourite celebrities at Madame Tussauds

A visit to Madame Tussauds Berlin is the perfect Mother’s Day activity if you’re looking for something fun and light-hearted. Stroll together past lifelike figures of celebrities such as Albert Einstein, Marilyn Monroe, Lionel Messi, Leonardo DiCaprio and Beyoncé. It’s a playful experience where you can have your photo taken with your favourite icons, try out funny poses and are guaranteed to have a good laugh. An ideal activity for a fun and cheerful day in Berlin.

8. Visit a typical Berlin beer garden

A city trip to Berlin isn’t really complete without a visit to a beer garden. Even if you don’t drink beer, it’s definitely worth a visit. After all, it’s not just about the beer, but mainly about sitting outside together and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. A beer garden is the place where friends and family come together to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, with a drink and a bite to eat within easy reach. This is a particularly pleasant activity on Mother’s Day: relaxed, cosy and perfect for catching up. Especially when the sun is shining, it’s a lovely way to spend time together. Besides, there’s something for everyone: wine, soft drinks, coffee and simple dishes. And the great thing is that you can perfectly combine a visit to a beer garden with one of the other activities listed in this blog. Some of our favourite beer gardens in Berlin are: Strandbar Mitte, Zollpackhof, Prater and Café am Neuen See.

9. Treat your mum to a wonderful dinner

There’s a good chance your mum has cooked for you every night for years, but on Mother’s Day it’s time for her to do nothing at all. Therefore, take her out for dinner in Berlin to enjoy a special meal together. Berlin is known for its diverse food scene: there are hundreds of restaurants, including a wide range of vegan options. On Mother’s Day, many places also offer special menus. Does your mum love sushi? Then Stick’n’Sushi is a great choice, featuring dishes such as tempura broccolini to share and a refreshing non-alcoholic cocktail specially created for the occasion. For a more elaborate dinner, head to Hugo & Notte, where an exclusive three-course menu is served, featuring refined dishes such as creamy seafood soup, risotto and white chocolate mousse. Prefer to have lunch together? ORA Restaurant Wine & Bar offers a three-course lunch at a fixed price. Wherever you go, Mother’s Day is all about sitting down together, sharing good food and making time for one another.

10. Round off Mother’s Day with a drink at the Berlin Icebar!

The Berlin Icebar is a unique place and, as the name suggests, the bar is made entirely of ice. The temperature inside drops to as low as -10 degrees! The experience kicks off in the warm area, where you’ll be taken on a journey through the story of the crew of the Hansa in 1896. Then it’s time to go on board: put on a warm coat and gloves and step into an icy world together. Order a drink served in a glass made of ice, enjoy the atmosphere, and above all, don’t forget to take some photos with your mum. That way, you’ll not only have a unique experience, but also take home some lovely memories.
